Getting wisdom

The book of Proverbs is a book about Wisdom

1. fear God

Proverbs says that the beginning of wisdom is the fear of God, so in other words wisdom begins with God.

A man who does not fear God will not be wise. He will make bad decisions and have poor judgment.

A man who lives his life in the fear of God will be careful to make good decisions and exercise good judgment.

Always remember that without faith it is impossible to please God.

2. guard your mind

The things that go into your mind are the things that make you who you are, therefore guard your mind. Make sure that you only read or listen to or watch things that are wholesome, healthy, godly things, and that you close your mind, or set your mind against things that do not promote healthy spiritual growth or godly living.

The proverbs say My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments. Let not mercy and truth forsake thee, bind them about thy neck, write them upon the table of thine heart.

We know we love God when we fear Him and keep His commandments. The word keep means to guard'. Guard God's commandments, in your own life, and in your conduct, because you have an influence in the lives of other people and this influence can either be good or bad. So keep yourself in good company. My advice, join a church and seek to be friends with men and women who fear God and keep His commandments. Men and women who have a desire to know Christ first above everything else.

3. carefully select your companions

Who you choose as your friends determines who you will be. Other people, your friends, are a huge influence on the development of your own character. If you keep bad friends you will become a bad person. If you keep good friends you will become a good person.

Keep friends who will tell you the things you need to hear, who will challenge you, and who will build you up and encourage you to grow in faith and godliness.
